Facilitating Digital-Transformation through Visual-Thinking Workshops
When a global recruitment agency conducted an organisation-wide Digital Transformation initiative, Ideasutra was called in to facilitate a series of workshops aimed at augmenting the change, using visual-thinking frameworks and models. The workshops were conducted across all major branches of the organization over the course of the initiative.

The Ripple Effects of Digital Transformation on People and Culture
Organization-wide Digital Transformation initiatives usher in as many challenges as they do opportunities, and experts seem to agree that businesses can expect even more business disruption in the coming days, a large part due to A.I. driven initiatives.
Accenture’s Pulse of Change: 2024 Index, for example, indicates that technology is the number one cause of Business Change. Such initiatives have an outsized impact on work culture and employee behavior, as the liminal periods between change tend to be filled with uncertainty.
Our client, a global leader in recruitment, brought us onboard to facilitate change visualization among the work-force. The exercise involved helping individual acquisition and recruitment teams better understand the impact of the Digital Transformation initiatives on their workflows, as well as with their own career progressions.

Alleviating career concerns due to digital disruption
The Digital Transformation initiative involved ushering in RPA as well as A.I. solutions for recruitment, which needed to be clarified to managers, so the right messaging and processes may be rolled out to frontline teams.
We worked closely with the client management team, to first understand the inherent challenges and articulate the desired outcomes of the exercise. Subsequently, we designed and executed a series of workshops across all major branches across the country.
Setting the stage for the Workshops
Prior to rolling out the visual-thinking workshops, we conducted a series of stakeholder interviews with the management and team leaders aimed at uncovering reactions to the transformation initiative from the frontline. Data collected during this exercise was used to model the activities conducted during the workshops.

Facilitating the Visual-Thinking Workshops
We conducted 8 workshops across 4 cities, with the aim of reaching line-managers and team-leaders about the potential benefits and impact of the transformation exercise.
The sessions were designed to help participants understand the ways in which personal journeys may be aligned with the organizational journey. The modules explored the importance of employee-benefits design, using mind-maps to create a divergent view, high level view of their Business Units, to fleshing out a modified Business Model Canvas to capture the various facets of their units.
Some of the methods & frameworks we used during the workshops included:
- Mind Mapping
- Customer Journey Mapping
- Horizons Framework
- Business Model Canvas
Program Outcomes
We conducted immediate post workshop debriefs, and also collected feedback from participating leaders a month later. Participants felt a sense of clarity and relief from uncertainty about which parts of the business may be automated and which skills were required from their teams in the near future. Understanding the big picture view of the organization’s business also helped participants understand the need for hybrid workflows and how to focus on areas in which their teams can create the most value.
